- Rudiments — the building blocks of great drumming, from single strokes to paradiddles and rolls
- Grooves & beats — rock, pop, country, funk, blues, and more
- Timing & tempo — playing with a metronome and locking in with a band
- Fills & transitions — moving smoothly around the kit and between song sections
- Reading drum notation — understanding charts and written rhythms
- Coordination & independence — getting your hands and feet working together
- Playing songs — learning to play along with the music you love
Lessons for Kids, Teens & Adults
Kids — Fun, high-energy lessons that build rhythm, coordination, focus, and real confidence, with beats and songs young drummers are excited to play.
Teens — From favorite songs to advanced grooves, teens develop the skills to play in a band, perform with friends, or prepare for school and community performances.
Adults — It's never too late to start drumming, or to get back behind the kit after years away. Our instructors meet you where you are and help you play the music you love.
Beginner Through Advanced
Beginner: Holding the sticks, your first rudiments, basic rock beats, and playing along with complete songs.

Advanced: Advanced independence and technique, odd time signatures, improvisation and soloing, and preparing for live performance or recording.

Explore RockShopFrequently Asked Questions
How old does my child need to be to start drum lessons?
Every child is different — readiness depends on focus, coordination, and interest. Reach out and we'll help you decide whether your child is ready to begin.
I've never played before. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Many of our students start with no experience at all, including plenty of adults. Your instructor will start right where you are and build from there.
Do I need a drum set at home?
Having a way to practice at home is important. Many beginners start with a practice pad and sticks, then move to an acoustic or electronic drum kit. Electronic kits are a great option for quieter practice. Ask us and we'll help you decide what makes sense.
What should I bring to my first lesson?
Nothing special — just come ready to have fun. If there's anything you need for future lessons, your instructor will let you know.
How often should I take lessons and practice?
Most students take one private lesson each week. Short, consistent practice sessions — even 15 to 20 minutes most days — make a big difference, and your instructor will give you a clear plan for what to work on.
Can I learn the songs and styles I like?
That's the idea! Rock, pop, country, funk, blues, metal, worship, and more — your lessons are built around your goals and the music that inspires you.
Can drum students join RockShop?
Yes! Every band needs a drummer. RockShop groups students by skill level and instrument to experience playing in a real band and performing live.
